Exercise in small bits, or in one big lump?

This is a general question about any types of workout, walking, weight training, cardio, etc. (Or maybe they all have different rules, that's what I'm here to ask about)...is it ok to do workouts in small increments spread out evenly over a whole day? Or is it better to spend one lump of time and then no more the rest of the day?

The reason I ask is because I am a very lazy person, but I'm really trying to make this work. The problem is I don't have enough energy or motivation to work out steady for a certain amount of time. What I like to do is have my equipment set up (exercise ball, Malibu Pilates machine, mini-trampoline, Curves for Women, stretchy bands, jump rope), it's all laying out so I can literally walk by and start using it. That helps me. I just hate changing into my work out clothes and getting all sweaty, thus ruining my hair, and I'd have to take another shower before leaving the house, it's just too much fuss for a lazy person like me. So what I've been doing is a little bit here and there so I can keep my normal clothes on, I don't get dripping sweaty, and I don't have to really commit a bunch of time because I just do it for a minute or two here and there all day. So it kinda keeps my blood pumping on a regular basis.

Yes, I rarely get my heart rate up, I know. Occasionally I'll dance/jump on my trampoline for an hour or two, but I admit I am too lazy to do that on a regular basis. Usually I don't have the energy, but a lot of times I'm just too busy doing other things and I hate losing an hour or two (I love to dance, once I start it's hard to stop, it's just starting that is the hard part!) I find I can actually do the stuff much more often if I just walk by, do it for a few minutes, then get back to whatever I was doing before.

Is this bad to exercise this way?

Hello!

It is good to know that you are in normal BMI range.

Concentrate on dietary changes to good protein rich diet with some regular exercises with weights and this will help till you are ready for heavier work outs and achieving all your goals!

Take care!

My BMI is pretty low  from what I remember from last time I did it, it said I was in the normal range. I'm only about 112 pounds, and five foot one. I wouldn't say i'm in perfect shape though, I don't have much muscle, and there is mild cellulite on my thighs and buttocks, but I've been out of work for the last 14 months and the majority of the time I'm sitting on my computer job hunting. Once I get working again, I'll firm up. But I actually want to build muscle with my pilates machine so hopefully it'll happen with or without a job!

Thanks for the reply Dr. Vinod!

Hello!

Measure BMI and if you are grossly out of shape then go for cardio in a full stretch for 1 hr regularly. (Skipping, treadmill, elliptical, cross trainer, swimming, jogging, running etc)

If you are in perfect shape then you can play around with your schedule and can do some 15 minutes of dancing, 15 minutes of sports, household chores etc as you wish.

Take care!
