push ups

i have undergone a surgery for hernia in 2007 and still feel some tinginess in the lower abdomen can i do push ups for my cheast excercise.if so what preventive measures should i take in doing it

Hi there!

This would depend on the site of hernia and the type of repair that was done; and your treating doctor would be the best judge of the present condition. If it is a well healed repair, slightly raised abdominal pressure and exercises should not be a problem and you should be able to do them normally. However if there are points of weaknesses or secondary issues/ complications, exercises of activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure may need to be avoided. You may like to consult your doctor for the same.
