Temporary Vision distortion / epileptic

My son has epilepsy, but is well controlled with meds...He is 15, 5'11", 180#.  Two weeks ago he was wrestling and lost the vision in his right eye (had only sparkles and light)ten minutes after he got done wrestling, his vision cleared.  A week later the same thing happened again, and now it has happened two nights in a row at practice...I have made an appt. with eye doctor, and the neurologist scheduled MRI and eeg....what could this be?

transient ischemic attack is a possibility, as are postural hypotension and other blood pressure problems.  this could also be a vascular problem like migraine or ocular migraine.

transient ischemic attack (TIA) would be blood flow blockage to the eye, probably from blockage of the carotid artery or ophthalmic artery.

postural hypotension would be blood flow loss from temporary low blood pressure.

regardless, he needs further testing, both eye exams and neuro visits.  but those are some of the 1st possibilities i could think of that match that complaint/symptom...

He had another episode tonight - his description is now the right eye is black and the left eye became blurry.  They both cleared when the work out ended.
