AIOL vs MonoVision decision points

Hi Doc, I am a 65 yr old male, wore readers from  45 to 50, then no glasses. Approx 3 yrs ago,
I had a myopic shift, distance worse, near better. At 62, I started wearing glasses for driving only. The shift has continued now need glasses for all except computer, and reading with great near vision. My current Rx is R Sph -2.0 Astig -.75, L(dominant)Sph -1.25, Astig -1.0, I have had two consults with specialists both  diagnose cataracts and recommend crystalens (both gold star B&L listed docs). Neither doc guaranteed results  certainly not glasses free life, or particularly pushed the crystalens but the level of negative comments and  risk factors  has made me think I should consider all possibilities before proceeding.
I have removed the right lens from my current glasses and tried to see if wearing the glasses with only  distance  correction to the dominant left eye would work for me. I have had no headaches, or depth perception issues, I feel like my corrected binocular distance vision in this mode now is probably around 20/25. down from 20/20 with both lenses in. 1) Is this a valid test of monovision?  2)If not any easy suggestions?
My near vision 3') and day/night driving, with near vision less urgent third. 7) How will this plan match that pattern of need? 8) Any other thoughts, suggestions etc you would recommend? Thanks (out of chars).

1. Using a list of "gold star surgeons" from the Crystalens manufacturer is hardly without bias. Often those lists are just based on volume without a quality metric.
2. Your situation has been covered in scores of discussions, and in great depth. You will need to search them out. This comes up again and again and we cannot retype all the pros and cons.
3. No it is not a valid test of monovision.
