Blind spot (like lightbulb) in eye - what to do next?

Posted the beginnings of my story on an older thread which is probably lost somewhere here now.

Anyway, I started having occular migraines a few years ago, and since then also get the same lightbulb style after images that many here seem to suffer from.

They normally last anything from a few seconds, to a few hours. But my latest one has now been here for a couple of weeks. It does seem to have slightly faded, but maybe that is just me wishful thinking.

It is most noticeable when looking at some dark then something light - or vice versa.

I asked my doctor about it, but they simply told me to get an eye test. So I went to see the optician yeterday and had a thorough eye test. He asked what this latest one looked like, where it was in my field of vision etc etc. But after doing my eye exam and finding nothing wrong with the eye itself, he was basically happy for me to go home.

I had to push him as to what I should do next, which seems amazing. I have a lazy eye so my eye with the problem is my only good eye - and the fact someone can listen to me describe what amounts to a small blind spot, and shrug it off is so disheartening.

After pushing him for an answer, he suggested I give it another week or so (based on me saying I thought it had faded slightly) and then go back to my G.P

I'm just worried that I won't be taken seriously again by my doctor even tough my eye has been tested. I am obviously worried I might get one on my focal point which would greatly affect my ability to read.

I assume I can insist my doctor refers me to a specialist if it persists? Thanks

p.s I'm in the U.K if that makes a difference.

Ocular migraine is a problem in your visual cortex (the brain).  You need to see a neurologist.

Hi Melinda, replied to your inbox.

I've called back my doctors and made another appointment (had to wait until the 29th though!!). What irks me the most is - what if it isn't something migraine related. What if something "could" be done if treated early enough, but as more time drags on, it means I'm stuck with it.

This is what I find so shocking about our NHS system at times, professionals shrugging off serious stuff like eye problems. Meanwhile as a person with only one good eye, I have to sit and worry.
