Laura, I would like to jump in here on finding a good and competent cataract surgeon. Firstly call your state medical association and see what information they have on him/her. Make sure you asked about malpratice suits. Next, ask everyone you know who has had cataract surgery and jot down how many times the same name pops up. I found that doctors do not always know how a eye doctor is if they have not had expereince with this doctor other than socially or bumping into him/her at a meeting. I was dumb and went with a doctor I saw on a roster at a teaching university. This was the dumbest think I have ever done in my life. I figured if his name was afflliated with the school..he had to be good. Yes, he may well be good but will a doctor be there for you should complications arise. Mine was not. So, this is very important to ask other patients... I learned the hard way. I wish you all the best. .
Dear laura5121,
You can look at the AAO.org website, find an eyeMD to find out more about the surgeons.
