Cataract post Vitrectomy One eye

Cataract post Vitrectomy One eye

Hello,

I had a Vitrectomy for a detached and torn retina (Left Eye) , most likely caused by years of very nearsightedness. The Retina has healed quite well and I was almost back to my pre-Op vision when a cataract rapidly developed to the point vision is quite poor, no question the cataract must be removed and an IOL inserted

I am 48 and my good eye (right)  is also nearsighted, but is very correctable with progressive lenses eyeglasses or even contacts using a monovosion ( Right was distance Left was reading) .

Having been using Monovision contacts for 12yrs maybe more my surgeon suggests implanting a monofocus lens in the Left eye set to reading. Right eye contact for distance is -6.5

I then would just need to insert my distance contact lens in my right eye. The Dr stated that I may no longer tolerate glasses, not quite sure why something about imbalance of correction required

Pros an Cons of going this route ? I imagine Reading glasses for the right eye are not an option so reading is only a one eye proposition like it is for distance

I am wondering if Intermediate would be better as I use a computer mostly and read very little hand held text such as newspapers

Thank You
