I recently noticed a new floater in my vision, saw the ophthalmologist for an exam, and was briefed on the vitreous detachment that causes floaters. He also warned me to be aware of the symptoms of retinal detachment, and to return immediately if I get any of them. Since that day, I have been afraid to wear my contacts, for fear of stressing my eyes and causing more floaters and/or retinal detachment. Is this possible? Is it a bad idea to continue wearing contacts? After being very nearsighted my whole life (I am 53), I am afraid to do anything to risk retinal detachment.
