Eye Flashes

What kind of flashes do you experience with a retinal tear/detatchment? Do the come from within the eye or would you see them in front of you like little sparks? How often do they occur?

If two retina Eye MDs haven't found anything wrong with your eye then I suspect you are experiencing entopic phenomena.. Use the search feature to read about them and also read the entry in Wikipedia on them.

thanks for all your help! I have recently been experiencing something and am not really sure what it is. It is not exactly a flash but more like a sensation of light that moves around the edge of my peripheral vision in a crescent like shape. It is only happening in my left eye (I am pretty nearsighted) and it is somewhat predictable. For instance sometimes when i move my eyes quickly to the left it will happen, also sometimes when I close my eyes. it lasts for a couple seconds and happens a few times a day. Any ides??

Also I have been to two retinal specialists and have checked out fine....

Not little sparks. Kind of like camera flash, very sudden, really really bright. Can make you jump! Split second duration, but the after image may linger for a bit while. ‘Come from within’ but you can see it right in front of you.

Very short duration, very bright intensity, not formed, not colored. Come from within the eye.  Frequency varies.
