How close am I to being legally blind?

My left eye as a prescription (as seen on my contact lens box) as -5.75 and my right eye is -4.50.  How close am i to being legally blind?

Just to let you know rach0116 that I had to wear glasses also and my prescription was -12.5 in one and and 11.75 in the other so I think you are far away from going blind...then I had lasik eye surgery and my vision is pretty close to 20/20...

Legal blindness is generally regarded as being unable to see 20/200 or better even with corrective lenses.  In other words if glasses or contacts did not help you see better than 20/200 you would be legally blind. You on the other hand can probably see great with them on so you are not legally blind.
