I've felt like I had something in my eye for weeks now. What could it be?

For the last month or so, I've occasionally felt like I had something in my eye. It's so painful, it almost feels like a shard of plastic.

In the beginning, it only happened when I first woke up. I'd open my eye and water would pour out of it. The pain and irritation was mild then, but it's since gotten severe and happens anytime during the day or night.

I've tried rinsing it and using eyedrops, it doesn't help. In fact, it makes it worse. Anyway, I don't remember ever getting anything in it and it's just the one eye so it's not allergies (I've never had allergies either).

It doesn't itch, it's only red when it acts up, and there's no discharge. Just severe irritation, pain and profuse watering.

I'd appreciate any input.

You have done as much 'home care' as possible You need to get in to (first choice)  Eye MD ophthalmologist (second choice) Non-physician optometrist.  Be sure they look under the lid. Call tomorrow.
