Right now there are not many surgeons using femtosecond lasers, but the number is increasing. Time will tell if this is superior to current standard cataract surgery. The femtosecond laser is being used to make the cataract incision into the eye, the capsule opening in the lens (capsulorhexis), and to soften the cataract. Then the phaco/aspiration portion of the lens removal is the same as standard cataract surgery. If you are in the US, Richard Lindstrom in Minneapolis, Eric Donnenfeld in NY, Mark Packer in Oregon, and possibly Robert Osher in Cincinnati are using the femtosecond laser.
Thank you very much Dr. Fazio for the information about femto second laser cataract surgery. I wondered if you knew of a highly reputable cataract surgeon located in the Denver, CO region (preferably the Ft. Collins area) who is very experienced in the use of the femto second laser? Thank you again.
