Light Bulbs...

Hello there,

Babies always stare a lights right?  - and I have constantly been trying to stop my baby of four months staring a light bulbs in our house ~(some shades show bulb underneath) since birth. Everyone keeps telling me his is ridiculous. My bulbs are equivalent to 75 Watts but are energy savers. However he loves to stare at them a any given moment. Is it possible that these are unsafe to developing eyes?

kind regards

Not sure but I don't think so.  Make sure that your child's other visual behaviors are normal.  Does he make eye contact with people and able to respond to your facial expressions in the absense of any sound stimuli (if you smile but don't make any noise).  Rarely, infants with poor vision or eye problems will stare at bright lights because they don't see well and use it as visual stimulation.  Also, make sure your son's eyes don't shake when he looks at things (nystagmus), and that the eyes are not crossing or going out.  If you have any concerns, you should take him to a pediatric ophthalmologist to make sure all is well.
