Myopia - Recommendations for a new glasses prescription

I am 38 years old and have about -7.0 D (myopia) in both eyes. Also, my myopia never stop progressing and got much worse in periods of intense anxiety.

I plan to visit an ophthalmologist soon but I need some clarifications first.

1. For distance vision is better to have full correction or undercorrection (for example: - 0.5 D ?)
2. As I am approaching the presbyopia age (I already had some difficulties for close up working) is it better to have another pair of glasses for computer use/reading? If so, how much could I expect to be the undercorrection from the full prescription (for example: -2.0 D ?)
3. I do extensive near work with the computer. In this way is it necessary to perform a ciclopegic refraction because of possible pseudomyopia? If so, the new glasses must be prescribed according to the findings of the ciclopegic refraction?
4. Is there anything I can do to slow or stop the progression of myopia?

Thank you for your time.

1. Full correction, assuming you have not been overminused.  Make sure the doctor used "+ fogging" technique to make sure of this.
2.  Very individual and depends on your preferences etc.  Too be discussed with your refractionist.  As a general rule though, computer corrections is half-way between near and distance corrections.
3.  Cycloplegic refraction is not required.
4.  Some feel wearing near correction to decrease accomodative strain may help.  At what rate is your myopia changing?  Sounds strange at your age for your degree of myopia.

Dr. Houman Vasoghi,

Thank you for your reply.

I use glasses since 15 and I started with a very small prescription (I think -0.5 D or -0.75 D in the right eye). In general my myopia have been increasing 0.30 D a year and never stopped progressing. The glasses I am using now are -7.0 -1.25 right eye and -6.0 -0.75 left eye.

I do not know if this is relevant but my mother has very high myopia and low vision (I think she started using glasses at 6 with some considerable myopia) and her vision never stopped getting worse.
