Off angle vision

by Mike W, Jul 19, 2007 10:09AM
From my mother:

"In January 2004, I had cataract surgery on one eye; in March 2004, I had it on the other eye. After these surgeries, my left sees at a higher level than my right eye and for the first time , I now need eye glasses with a prism to allow me to see normally. However, when I lie in bed and look up to see the ceiling fan or look across the room to watch TV, I see fine without glasses. Isn't there a test which might have been done between surgeries that would assure the 'balancing' (seeing equally) so this condition doesn't exist afterwards? I'm having alot of trouble seeing and keeping my balance while walking currently with these 'corrective ' glasses. Can this condition be corrected?"

Son's note: I seem to remember my mom having laser surgery (same as for cataracts mentioned above or different?) so she wouldn't have to wear glasses for reading. After that she could read fine and and drive, etc.. w/o glasses. That was before 2004. Now when she looks down or up both eye images seem to come together OK. Its just when she looks ahead that the problem of one eye sight up and one eye sight level that it becomes a problem. What bothers me is that this condition did not exist prior to her recent surgeries. What's up..?... and can it be corrected. She's in great health and has no other problems. Her current eye doctors don't seem to 'see' the problem as such and just say 'thats the way it is.... She is 90 years old, but again, in excellent health....

Well consider yourself "lucky" that a prism can fix you.     I had a brain anuerism in 2008 and a brain surgery after now my right eye sees everything at a 20 degree angle off my left.      there is no fix for my situation          my eye is screwed for the rest of my days......  I have to "force" my eyes together when speaking to someone cause i am ashamed for them to see a cross eyed glance so next time you feel like throwin them prism glasses out the window just remember that for some of us we don't even have that option.............
