PTERYGIUM: Attn Dr Feldman

I am trying to choose the right Dr for pterygium removal. The Dr i saw (Harvard Eye..Ca) uses glue not sutures. What are your thoughts on that?..any adverse reactions to glue in the eye? Also...does the eye ever look/function normally again. And it looks painful (watched a utibe video of the surgery)How long does the eye stay red?

Dear DeeDee2533,

Modern pterygium surgery is usually done without the use of sutures. This results in more comfort for patients after surgery.  Eye redness can persist and may take a few weeks to dissipate.  Sometimes, watching the procedure makes it seem scarier; however, the use of modern techniques has revolutionized the procedures.
