Diplopia

I've had lazy eye ( stramismus amblopyia ) on my right eye for all of my life, at age 38 I had eye muscle surgery, this surgery resulted in an over corrected right eye ( my eye sees to the left )... I see double/ things and people are besides or intertwined within themselves.... It's almost been 4 years, prisms are of no help leaving me to patching........ Doctors/specialist/opthomologist seem stumped... I feel like I'm losing my mind.... I was let go from the Military, can't function to well but was denied disability because double vision is not considered a true illness. I am getting to the end of my rope & don't know what else to do, everyone saids to seek a specialist but that's a dead end....   Help me... Anyone please....

Some more details are needed.  So I'm going to guess at a few things.  First, I am guessing that your right eye crossed in towards your nose and afterwards it is pointed slightly outward towards your ear.  When the right eye is outward, it sees things off to the left hand side as though they were straight ahead.  Is this what you mean?

Certainly you should see a pediatric ophthalmologist who is the best person to try to help you overcome your situation.  You should also educate yourself on a condition known as Monofixation Syndrome since this may be what is causing your problems. You can learn a lot at www.aapos.org on the Pubic Forum.

Hello Dr. Brown... quite the opposite, right eye used to gravitate towards right ear, post surgery eye gravitates towards my nose, resulting in diplopia. Both eyes have 20\20 vision, prisms were tried for various years w/ no success....   Pre muscle surgery had no diplopia. angle of the eye was slightly off.. ( who knew )..
Thank you Dr. Brown for your advise, I will seek info on this Monofixation Syndrome........  Have a great day.
