My son is 22 months old. He's had a small raised bump on his right lower eyelid since he was about 6 months old. It's been checked by his pediatrician and he didn't think anything about it. Doesn't seem to hurt or bother my son and there isn't a hard mass under it. Every few months (4 times in 2010 and now the first is 2011) that lower eyelid swells up. It happens within minutes, seems to irritate him a little (he will then rub it) and goes away within a few hours. He doesn't have any known allergies. I'm starting to track his history/diet in the 24 hours leading up to these episodes, but nothing seems to show a pattern. It's always that eye, never the other, so I feel pretty sure it's tied to the bump somehow. We just had a CT scan and the preliminary review is that it was normal, but the eye doctor is looking at it next week to specifically address the eye isses. Could it be related to a virus? He was in the ER yesterday for a high fever and the it happened today. A week after the last incident he was in the hospital for croup and then 2 days later RSV. Thanks.
