cataract surgery and retinal detachment

I am a 55 yr. old healthy male with a Hx of retinal detachment and tears in both eyes. A detachment in my right eye in 2010 repaired and cataract surgery later the same year. I have had several tears in my left eye all repaired with the laser. Now I have a cataract on my left eye, which is beginning to interfere with driving and reading. Both my retina surgeon and my regular eye MD said having cataract removed would improve my vision and depending on the lens used could eliminate the need the need for glasses. I would just need reading glasses. What would be the risks for cataract surgery and what precautions can be made to reduce the risk of a retinal detachment/tears in that eye? What should I look for in selecting a cataract surgeon?  Thank you very much.  .

Main risks are Retinal Detachment (RD), infection, and pain or loss of best corrected vision (ie with glasses). You RD risk is higher and theres nothing you can do other that ask the surgeon to not rush it.
