blepharitis question

Hello

When I was about 15 years old I decided to get contacts. After having contacts for a year my left eye got an infection and I noticed my left eyelid was swollen. I was given antibiotic drops  and I think I was on them for about a month and it made my swollen eyelid and the infection go away and I was back on contacts again.

After that I continued to wear contact until I was about 18 and I started having major discomfort in my left eye when I wore contacts, I started trying different contacts to see which one I can wear comfortably, while I was trying different contacts I sometimes had major discomfort and I noticed my left eyelid is getting swollen again and not just a little something that everyone would notice. I did not know what blepharitis was back then and I went to the doctor and told him I have major discomfort and he told me to stop wearing contacts, after about 6 months of not wearing contacts I still had the symptoms of blepharitis (burning, dryness, eye awareness, swollen upper eyelid) and I decided to get PRK eye surgery. right now I'm 22 and I still have blepharitis symptoms in my left eye, but I tried a product called "Thera Tears Nutrition" for the first time yesterday and it seems to be helping helping.

The reason I went through all that history is because I want to know if I go on antibiotics will my blepharitis go away like it did the first time? and if I don't go on antibiotics will eating Thera Tears Nutrition in combination with Sterilid solve my blepharitis problems?  and I forgot to mention I did a tear test about 2 years a go and I was told my tear does not mix properly, I think it had more oil in it then it was supposed to, and I use Refresh Liquigel drops about 6 times a day.

Please tell me what I should do to put an end to my blepharitis problems, should I just continue to take Thera Tears Nutrition in combination with Sterilid or should I also go on antibiotics?

sorry about the long post and thanks for your help

Best Regards

When you were using contacts did you follow the instructions for cleaning them? Did you remove them when  you were supposed to?

Dear arya6000,

I would recommend that you obtain care for your blepharitis to determine the best treatment regimen. Since it is a chronic issue, you will require continued care to evaluate the progression and how much the treatments will help.  From time to time, you might require antibiotics to help alleviate your symptoms; however, the best treatment is often eyelid hygiene.
