detached retina after care

My husband has just had a detached retina operation.  Does anyone know how long before he can see again and his eye will not be so painful and bloodshot.

Dear sindy04,

I would speak with his retinal specialist. The time to heal may depend upon the type of surgery, whether gas bubble was placed inside the eye, and individual patient factors.

Please discuss this with his surgeon.  It can literally take many months to improve but sometimes there are other complicating factors like cataract surgery that will be needed within a year.  Bottom line is that it takes quite a bit of time.  Talk to the surgeon for more specific info about his case. They are always available to take your questions.
