has anyone on here heard of Bests disease?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone on this forum has heard of Bests disease. Its a macula eye disorder and it effects your central vision..I was diagnosed with it when I was a teenager. I had to wear glasses sinse I was a child. My left eye was lazy, but until I was about 17 I didnt know I had this. I guess my dad has it and four of my siblings as well as my daughter. My younger sister's eyes have always been alot worse then mine. and she goes to specialists and gets the Bests disease checked every six months. I on the other hand just go to a regular eye doctor and get mine checked there. She recently told me that they have to inject a dye through an iv in order to check the vains in the eye? I was wondering if anyone has ever had this done? I always thought that there was no cure for this disease so whats the point of checking it..Although I do get my eyes dialated and checked out. I am reluctant to go to a specialist because I am nervous about getting this dye injected into my vains..I am taking my daughter because she is young and maybe can benefit. My sister also said that there is a form of chemo treatment that they use on macula degeneration (which is similar to Bests disease) This treatment is new though and I dont know if its ever been used on anyone with bests disease..apparently its an injection in the eye...My vision in my left eye is worse then my right eye. And I can see fine with my glassed..I can even get by without wearing my glasses/..any comments, and replies would be greatly apprecialted..
Thanks

Dear tara1414,

I would recommendthat you seek the care of an eyeMD specializing in retinal diseases and explain your history.  It would also be helpful to have the results of a complete eye examination including refraction for him/her.  If you do need the dye test, while it sounds odd, the test is quite easy for you but may give the doctor information about the condition of your eyes.
