White without pressure is fairly common, and the incidence increases with age:  5% of eyes under age 20 and 66% of eyes over age 70.  It is possible to develop a retinal tear in this area, especially with a posterior vitreous detachment, which occurs as we age.  You should have a dilated exam of the retina yearly.  If you have any sudden flashes of light or dramatic increase in floaters in the left eye, you need to be examined by your retina specialist immediately.
