scleral lump

I have a lump directly on my eyeball adjacent to my pupil.  I went to the doctor - they referred to an opthamologist. i haven't seen him yet. the doctor wasn't sure what it was.  it looks kind of clear  and is quite visible if you look at my eye.  at first i thought it was a piece of plastic.  i've had it for a few weeks now.  it doesn't really hurt although my eye does feel strained, like it's tired.
any ideas?

Dear Karen620,

It is difficult to make an accurate diagnosis from your description.  Some possible diagnoses include conjunctival cyst, chemosis or swelling the conjunctiva, pterygium or pinguecula.  I hope this helps and make sure you make an appointment to see an eyeMD to determine the cause and treatment of this lesion.

It is most likely a pingueculum or pterygium.  Look up both on a search engine.  Both are caused by chronic sun and wind exposure.  Another possibility is a conjuctival cyst.  Use artificial tears often and keep your appointment.
