treatment options and expectations for a 25 year old with a cataract

Hi, I posted this in the general discussion forum as well.  My apologies if you are reading this twice!

I'm 25 years old, and I have been diagnosed with a cataract in my left eye.  I do not have any other medical or eye related conditions, although my work requires very fine detailed near vision. I have seen several ophthalmologists and have received several different treatment options.  One has suggested I wait until it is really bothersome (it is not all that bothersome for day-to-day activities, but my vision in that left eye is not good enough for my work), another recommended that I implant it with a monofocal IOL and leave me -2 and get either Lasik in my right eye or wear a contact lens in my right eye, another as suggested a multifocal lens implant.  I am aware of the side effects of multifocal lenses, such as halos, ghosting, glare, etc, so I am leaning towards the monofocal IOL.  My question is if I do go with the monofocal IOL and get Lasik, would I be able to use a multifocal contact lens or progressive lens glasses to improve my vision?  What expectations can I have for my overall vision?  Thank you all in advance.

He/She *IS* going online (to medhelp) and is researching their options and you are worse than useless, in that you never actually ANSWER any questions, just tell people to...go online and research.

Everyone thinks that you are absolutely worse than useless (in that your "answers" actively hurt people by closing the thread and giving the impression that the question was answered)...please leave medhelp eye care, everyone thinks the same about you.

Dear hsushibox,

This is not an easy decision and I would recommend that you go online, research the options and then speak further with your eyeMD about the best solution for you.
