yellow pigment on skin above eyes

I have yellow pigment on the skin above my eye...towards the nose.  It looks like someone took a small paint brush, dipped it in yellow and painted a stroke on my skin in the same position above both eyes.

I am in my mid-40s.  Female.  In good health.  Have others experienced the same?  My physician does not know what could be causing this.

Generally that is a xanthalasma, caused by cholesteral under the skin. It is an indication for a fasting lipid (fat) analysis a test done after a 12 hr fast where total cholesteral, HDL (good), LDL (bad) and triglycerides are measured. If high it needs to be treated. If high the yellow spots tend to get worse and develop on all four eyelids.

That makes sense. My doctor told me that my yellow coloring was due to "fatty deposits."  However, all my lab work turned out normal. Is there a way to get rid of it?

Assuming your fats (lipids) are all normal the only was to remove it is with surgery. Often its a problem because the insurance companies sometimes say its cosmetic surgery and won't pay to removed.
