Who to see for second opinion?

I have an enlarged lymph on the back of my neck(below hairline) and have seen my doctor 2 times for it in the last several weeks. SHe does not seem concerned at all about it. She is a great doctor but I do want a second opinion. She is an internist. If I were to seek a second opinion about it would I go to another internist, or would I seek an ENT doctor or hematologist?

A second opinion for something like this would go to an ENT.

If there is a need for a biopsy, the ENT would be able to do this, not a hematologist.

If by change this is cancerous (via biopsy), then a hematology/oncology evaluation would be considered.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I agree.  Ask the Dr. to step in and step up.  Your questions need to be answered.  I would want an explaination so there is nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion.

If you have a good relationship with your physician (and hopefully you do) there is absolutely nothing wrong asking her advice concerning a second opinion. I would certainly respect your concern if you were a patient of mine. There is nothing to equal honesty .. good luck. A request of this nature might inspire your Dr. to investigate further to put your mind at ease ..... Good Luck ....
