First IUI

Have been dealing with infertility for a while now and we finally found out that my husband had low sperm count. The first specimen was 5 million and the second time was 7 million. Mobility and motility are excellent. I have no problems and ovulate every month. Got ready to do the IUI. I had two mature follicles, one 15, and one 18.Well when my husband gave the specimen they told us that count went way down to 1 milion I did not understand what happened. They told us that if we went ahead and did the IUI there would only be a 1 percent chance. We decided to do it anyway. We finally figured out that my husband had gotten sick with a high fever several weeks ago and nurse told us that this most likely caused the decrease and it would take 3 moths to get back to normal. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Has anyone gotten pregnant with IUI with sperm count this low? Please I need help, anyone.

Well I am eight days past IUI and wont know if it worked until next week. I wanted to ask everyone if they experienced bloating 2 days after procedure. From that point on I have been bloating off and on. I bloated during ovulation but it went away and came back 2 days after procedure.  I was feeling alot of twinges in my ovaries and abdomen there for a few days. Now today on day 8 im really bloated and am feeling a very light cramp. Wouldnt even call it a cramp. Its more like a dull feeling that comes and goes. I know one day I was sitting at my desk while writing and all of a sudden I got this quick sharp pain in my abdomen just for a second. Was strange. I know im prob just getting anxious but Im actually been pretty relaxed. Any one have any input?

Thanks. Yes I was devastated. It is a very hard road to travel. I was pretty angry because it was a different nurse doing the procedure and she starts jumping to something about IVF. I said that the doctor did not suggest this. I told her that I didnt understand why the count dropped. She asked if my husband had been sick but we didnt think about mentioning this until after the procedure and then she told us about the 3 months prior thing. This def makes me feel better. I was so scared that something bad was going wrong. Im glad someone else knows how i feel!

I have been doing IUI's for the past 4 months due to my dh having a lower sperm count. His is usually between 50-60 million, but two months ago it had dropped to 30 million. The nurse mentioned the same thing, that what happens 3 months prior is what has an effect when you are trying. 2 1/2 months before that appointment my husband had a procedure done to correct painful urination, which is why we think the count was lower.

We are still trying so I know how hard this is! Hang in there and I'm sure the next time you go in his numbers will be back to where they were before the fever! Good luck :)

We Had sex wednesday and held off  until procedure on friday, yesterday. I was given ovidril injection to induce ovulation on day before that. I am 31 and been trying since I was 29. I appreciate the help. Hoping it will work this time. He was taking L carnitine but it didnt help at all. They said the fever he had prop caused the drop. So if it doesnt work this time we are going to wait a couple of months before doing it again. Thanks! Good luck too you too!

I hope they had you not have sex 48 hours before iui to increase sperm count.  It probably helps to have sex every other day or every two days during ovulation time since you husband doesn't have a high sperm count.  Did you have sex the day after IUI? That would also give you an extra chance.   Did you do a trigger shot before IUI or did you ovulate naturally? Trigger shot helps release any follicle 15 and over which would increase your chances.   How old are you?  There are great vitamins for men to take to help increase sperm count. Fertilaid sells one and you can find stuff on the web.  Good luck this cycle, don't be discourage, since you are healthy that is half the battle. Sending you baby dust!

I don't happen to know if anyone has gotten pregnant with low sperm count, but I can tell you since I have fertility issues having a high sperm count for IUI hasn't gotten me pregnant yet, but I am still ttc.  i am hoping my recent iui is the one that worked.
