IVF ?s

My DH and I are trying for IVF again... We have a beautiful DD with fresh IVF... A BFN with FET... My question... What length of time should I be on bed rest after the transfer? (I feel dumb, but I can't remember how long I stayed on bed rest after the fresh IVF... With the FET I only stayed 24 hours, but I got a BFN, maybe I didn't stay on bed rest enough?)

No, my beta number was 70something... I don't know why the Answer tests didn't pick it up... As far as the donated embryos... the nurse just said that there were too many legal issues...

Thank you all for your input...i don't know very much about this whole process but I would like to learn just so I know what my options are and how to go about it you know?  I still have to look at my husbands insurance through work to see if we will be covered for it.  I hope so lol.

Was you beta # low to start with?  I mean if FRER is coming back negative and we do get a BFP tomorrow that would mean our beta would be less than 25.  And at 17 dp retrieval I am not sure how good that is. Either that or FRER isn't picking anything up.  I mean I didn't even have an evap line.  I was told that if beta is <100 at 16dpo it isn't a good sign.

We did another fresh cycle in hopes that we have one or two more to freeze so we would have some for a future FET.  Fat chance.  We only got 3 embryos total this time (used them all for the transfer on 8/31) instead of the 9 we origianlly started with the last cycle.  I think the Lupron protocol this time around suppressed me too much.

Why wouldn't they add the donated embryos?  Are they afraid of them having an immunology war with each other or b/c then you wouldn't know for sure the genetic background of the baby (which in my mind isn't important anyway).

We are in the same boat.  The one FE left is a day 6... And like you said, what is an extra couple grand when you're this far into the game!  Ugh, I just wish there was a guarantee...

BY THE WAY... I wouldn't give up just yet... All my HPTs came back BFN, even the one an hour before my beta... HOWEVER, my beta was positive, and our DD is almost 14 months old.

I asked my RE about throwing in any donated embryos (on top of our one), but they don't do that... The company Snowflake has embryos adoption, but it is CRAZY expensive!

We have one embryo left too.  I am pretty sure this second fresh cycle of IVF failed.  Beta is tomorrow, but I have been getting BFNs on FRER.  I know I am done with fresh cycles, I am tired of going through all this cr*p.  But I am wondering if I should even bother giving it one more try with that one frozen embryo.  It was frozen at Day6.  When our first cycle failed he gave us the option of doing an FET with the one and said the success rate is only 10% less than fresh.  Well, right now we are at 0% success, so I am not sure that success rates even mean anything to me anymore.  And what is another 2K on top of the 20K we have already paid.

I agree with SDScientist... The IVF ranges are ALL over the board.  My biggest "issue" is that we only have 1 embryo left... We did an FET and it was BFN... I just hate to spend the money on the 1 embryo and get another BFN... Then again... it could be a BFP, like my DD!

I think it depends on what clinic you go to. Our old insurance covered IVF 100% and our current one didn't cover anything but the medication which helps and the blood work. We were given a 20% discount since insurance didn't cover it. All in all our cost is up to $9,000.

The cost of IVF spans a pretty big range.  The clinic I go charges 250 for the consult, 800 for the hysteroscopy and mock transfer (I don't think all Drs do this though), and 8100 for the IVF cycle which is inclusive of everyting but the bloodwork.  Meds are extra, but my insurance covers those so I am not sure how much they actually are, but I beleive it is in the range of $3000-5000 depending on your protocol.   Good Luck to you.

My husband and I have to look at IVF...was just wondering if it is affordable?  If not comfortable answering that don't worry bout it but I am stressing b/c nothing seems to be going right.  He has a low sperm count and I don't ovulate correctly.  Any help would be appreciated.

My doc said to rest the day of transfer and next day and to take it easy for the rest of the week.

I think each doctor is different.  My Dr. requires the day of the transfer plus the two days following.
Good luck to you.
