One more thing. If you want to read more about pcos and what you can do, check out this site http://pcos.insulitelabs.com/index.php. It talks a lot about insulin resistance, but also how important diet and exercise are in reversing pcos. My gyn and family doc were not at all interested in guiding me through a natural process of curing pcos... they only wanted to give me a drug to get pregnant. I'm not one for band-aid solutions, but lots of people are, and that's okay. Again, I hope this gives you some food for thought, and whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck!

I also have been diagnosed with pcos. My family doc sent me to a gyn and basically they told me that if I want to get pregnant, I need to take a drug called chlomid. My luteil phase (dpo) was ranging between 5 and 8 days. Being the ever-curious and somewhat skeptical person that I am, I did a lot of online research and decided to go to see a Naturopath - I found one that specializes in fertility. Online sources mostly say PCOS is caused by insulin resistance - so you might want to get tested for that. The long and short is, pcos is caused by hormonal imbalances, insulin being only one possibility. It could also include thyroid, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone and perhaps others I don't know about. I have been taking herbal supplements for thyroid, estrogen and progesterone. I am currently on a very personalized anti-candida cleanse. I have to lose weight and exercise everyday. I use a castor oil pack on my stomach daily. I have been advised to reduce stress (ie. for me this means therapy regarding my dad's recent suicide and also just doing yoga or meditation 30 min/day). There's quite a few more little things too, but generally they are all geared towards regulating my hormones.
I've been doing this stuff for 2 months now, and although I'm not preg yet, the naturopath says it will take a minimum of 3 months to see a difference. However, there already are some noticable differences. My dpo is up to 12! I have breast tenderness again after ovulation (haven't had that for about 3 years). I have lost 5 lbs on the cleanse. My energy levels are increasing overall.
Whether or not this will work, I'm not entirely sure, but the signs look promising and at least I'm getting healthier in the meantime. My husband and I don't really want to take drugs or go through IVF, so this is what we're trying instead. I hope my experience gives you some hope and maybe some ideas about different options.
Good luck
I have only ovulated 4 time since they said I have pcos. I have not went more than 10-12 Dpo since than last month was 6 dpo.
Before I started to ovulate they had me on pogesterone to have periods each month.
The one thing different this month is I'm so light headed, do you think that could be back of my cycle?
Sounds like you might need to be on supplemental progesterone.. that way it can give you a long enough luteal phase/tww that a little bean can have time to implant and get snuggled in there for the long haul! my original dr always wrote off my spotting saying it could be normal, but i didn't think a little bean could implant if i'm shedding my lining that early and sure enough had low progesterone ( i have pcos as well) extra progesterone wont' hurt anything and can only help! : ) GOOD LUCK let me know what the dr says?
Not just spotting, I spot one day than i have a full period. The said I have pcos and they have not decided if I have low progesterone during that time.
The other strange think is that I got very light headed the last few days. I feel like i might pass out.
are you having AF after 6 days or spotting? are you on progesterone supplements already? or have they shown you have low progesterone during this time? I have spotted the last few years during LP and progesteerone supplements stop that every time.. otherwise just to make sure your ovulating well... GOOD LUCK!
So I just got a call from the ob her self last night but I missed the call. Yes the ob not the nurse. She wants to talk to me. She will be in in about 45 minutes and I can call her back. She wants to talk about me having such a short luteal phase last cycle.
Any suggestions or thoughts.?
