Trigger shots and Ovulation Monitors?

Hi .. I read a number of posts and it seems most people monitor o'ing with sticks or the machine....I have never done it because I get the trigger shot and o is supposed to happen 36 hours from then....I feel like I may be missing something, though.   Do you all get trigger shots and monitor anyway? Is that why I haven't gotten pg (or could be one of the reasons) that o doesn't happen 36 hours after shot so I've missed the window?
