an egg(LUFS), the rest stay cysts for a week or so longer (this past cycle for a month longer :( ) we have never gotten preg with anything less than 3 follies since sometimes none of them rupture
I had mine cancelled due to over response from Gonal F, I have PCOS and this is the 3rd attempt at IUI but this got cancelled as i had more than 17 follicles (not all were mature).
I think it really depends on your age. Under 40 and they are more conservative. Over 40 and they will usually do more. I'm almost 40 and my RE said we were going for 4-6 mature follicles.
How do you know your follicles don't rupture? Is this rare? Does your dr do follow up ultrasounds to see if they actually ruptured?
I told my RE I was worried about them not rupturing and he dismissed my concern and said that only happens if the hcg shots are given when the follicle isn't mature or if the shot is given incorrectly--but it sounds like he's wrong...
I had 5 follies last time and my RE let me proceed with IUI and just discussed the risks. Unfortunately even with those 5 it was a failed cycle. I definatley have 3 for today's IUI and maybe up to 5 but I won't know because he does not do an US before the IUI. If I had 6 follies I would still demand an IUI but I am also 38 so I know that not every follie would be healthy.
I just had an u/s today and they discovered 6 follicles 14mm or larger. This was my first cycle with injectibles and my doc seemed surprised by how well I responded (I had surgery for endometriomas in January - one one could be removed). I was also surprised, but we were told not to proceed and not to try at home because the risk for multiples was great. After reading some of the posts, I wonder if it's worth taking a chance at home. I'm 35 and we've been trying for over 2 years. Being told things look good, but we shouldn't try (and to wait until June because the follicles could turn to cysts) is really hard to hear!
