Can low Projesterone be the cause of HCG not doubling?

I am 26, healthy, TTC and carry to term.

I want to see if you can give me any idea of what is going on.

HISTORY:   I m/c naturally at 7 weeks in October 2007 (U/S showed sac but nothing inside, HCG 7700 then dropping).

So I am pregnant again now, LMP May 4th, 2008.  I went in for U/S on 6/17(thought I was 6 weeks based on LMP) and saw sac which looked normal in size for 5 weeks.  My HCG have been going up like normal, up until yesterday.  They went from 1700 to 2780... Definatley not doubling.  SO we also tested my projesterone and it is 5.9.  HE put me on 100mg suppositories to times a day.  It seems that my breasts are less tender now so I am pretty sure it was too late for the Projesterone.   ***I also had what seemed to be a totally normal period after I found out that I was pregant, but my HCG doubled the whole time and it stuck in their.  I think my low projesterone explains why I continue to spot last time and this time.

My question is could this low projesterone be the cause of the miscarrages?  I am scared that something could be wrong genetically... I get pregnant twice in one year... but lost one and this seems the same?

Any one had low projesterone and slowed HCG and still carried that baby to term?
Any one have any idea of what I can ask my DR. to check to try and carry to term?
Any help is so appreciated.

Tiffany

Just want to tell you i am in the same boat 7 weeks.. and had low progesterone so my doc gave me the pro supps. the scary thing that happened though was my beta did not double.. and i freaked out. but he told me that sometimes the beta wont double bec the prog. supps get in the way.. so dont worry if the beta doesnt double its common with the prog supps as long as they increase its all good. good luck to both of us!

Well thank you for the comment.  I go in today to check my HCG levels... Hopefully doubling but I am prepared if not.  To be honest now that I have been taking the Progesterone supps I have not spotted which is a friggin miracle.  I am positive that was the problem and so is my DR. so if not this time it will be next time!  :)

so sorry to hear that your going through this! I completely understand the fear and how horrible waiting for that  next beta/ultrasound can be!
low progesterone can defintely be the cause of miscarriages early in pregnancy, and they always like to see the number above ten and preferably over 20 when pregnant.(i'm pretty sure!). the good news about low progesterone causing problems is that its a very easy fix! with progesterone supplements.. its a very common  problem!   could you be off on your ovulation days, and thats why it was dating earlier than 6 weeks? this is also super common!
unfortuantely sometimes the progesterone can be low in a pregnancy thats not doing well too, so its hard to always know which came first, low progesterone or problem with the pregnancy..
i have heard of a lot of people that have a slump in their betas at one point, weather it be at the beginning or in the middle and then go on to have a full term healthy baby!  as far as the breast soreness goes, its normal to have it one day and it not be as strong or there the next day and then it come back etc.. i know i was constanly checking mine saying thank goodness still sore, and then would flip out the second they weren't! but i did lots of research on that and that seemed very normal! however progesterone can cause breast soreness..
I am praying for you and hoping that everything with this pregnancy works out great and you will have a healthy baby in 9 months!!!!  as far as genetic issues go, my RE doesn't test until two mc have happened since mc is unfortuantely so common... GOOD LUCK and your in my thoughts and prayers!!!
