Infertility

We have been trying to conceive for three yrs with the help of IVF procedures.  We have had three unsucessful trys, no implantation but in lab the embyo will reach 7-8 cells when split and dividing.  My transfer has always been a 5 day plan and they are saying that I have a Luteal Phase defect ?  What is this and how can it be treated ?

I also have a luteal phase defect (aside from other issues) and recently finished a successful IVF cycle. The progesterone you are given during the luteal phase (after transfer) should be sufficient to treat the LPD. I also have a clotting disorder and experienced 5 miscarriages over the past 2 years. Now, I'm taking baby aspirin and lovenox injections which seem to be making the difference.

If you want to try naturally, you will probably need to take progesterone supplements (either injections or suppositories) after ovulation as well as your medications for the clotting disorder. B6 can improve your cycle somewhat, but in my understand it isn't sufficient if your LPD is severe.

Good luck!

Hey,
Try Vitex aka Chateberry! i ordered it online, it helps with lengthening Luteal Phase and ovulation. It is not harmful at all!! It has helped very many women and has awsome ratings. It may take 3-6 months to see any effects so de patient! :) Also try progesterone cream, it helps make the lining of the uterus stronger. The body produces progesterone in the second half of the cycle, known as the luteal phase. It’s progesterone that causes the basal body temperature to rise. It’s progesterone that helps the lining of the uterus to thicken for a possible fertilized egg to implant. It's progesterone that goes on to maintain a pregnancy, once implantation takes place. And it’s progesterone that keeps the baby safely in the womb until ready to be born. If progesterone is deficient, you will experience PMS, luteal phase deficiency, miscarriage, preterm labor and possibly premature birth. Low progesterone is also responsible for post partum depression in many cases. Knowing what progesterone does you can certainly see why a deficiency in this can cause a lot of problems. Heres the website for that. http://beyondfertility.com/natural-progesterone-cream/
And heres some info for vitex.  Vitex or chaste berry has an excellent track record in relieving complaints in women, caused by hormonal imbalances, known as Premenstrual Syndrome. It may also be helpful for women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) who do not have a normal menstrual cycle. These women thus don’t ovulate or menstruate and cannot get pregnant. The condition when a woman does not have any menstruation at all is known as amenorrhea.
Vitex or Chaste tree berry acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary glands by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) production and mildly inhibiting the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This results in a shift in the ratio of estrogen to progesterone, with a rise in progesterone. The ability of chaste tree berry to raise progesterone levels in the body is an indirect effect, so the herb itself is not a hormone.
Good Luck and i hope this helps!

I agree with agyemang, B6 is great for lining.  I found a fertility recipe on the web that includes B6 in the morning and B50 at night. You can read my journals to find out more, I posted it back in August.  Since taking it, my periods are longer and heavier and I am also doing acupuncture weekly.  I am 41and have been ttc for 3 years and have found that my luteal phase is about 12 days now from 10.

a luteal phase defect occurs when the time from your ovulation to a period is less than ten days. i realised i had the same problem (8-9 days)and i started to take vitamin b6. This pushed my luteal phase this cycle to 15 days. i'll recomend it to you anytime.
