Careers for the less-abled?

Careers for the less-abled?

I've been trying for months to find a career to train and educate for that is friendly toward those who have chronic illness.  I have strength/mobility problems with my hands and arms and fatigue is a problem.  Originally I wanted to train for radiology tech but don't have the strength anymore.  I have found no one who can tell me where to look at possible careers.  I want to be able to work through or around my illness.

I think something that can be done on a contract basis to allow for bad days would be a good idea.  I've thought about a BS in nutrition or speech therapist, but can't find an on-line school for either.  At this time I cannot get to a campus class reliably.

Any thoughts?  Thanks much.

Hey Byffy1970,

Despite all your challenges you have all this determination!
I get this great feeling about you.
Something very good is going to come out of this.
There are a few rough edges that need trimming first.
You may need a mentor so you can learn from his/her expertise.
Contact the  South Carolina Women's Business Centre in Columbia SC.
Register with them, as you will be self-employed and home based.
Then, go to micromentor.org and just follow the instructions.
You will be given a choice to select a mentor or one will be selected for you. It all should be a seamless task!
You will get tremendous support and guidance.
Also another great resource that I highly recommend to you is Hay House
Radio. It is free and it gives you access to some of the most gifted Teachers, Healers, Doctors, Lecturers and Authors in our society.
I am a Hay House Wisdom Community member and simply love it!
Just do a search.
Hope you can use this information and really enjoy it!
Blessings,
Niko

As well as looking for careers, look for disability friendly companies.  Many now offer telecommuting as an option. It is perfectly acceptable to ask questions of that nature of a company.

I will keep that in mind.  That's a great tip.  I knew there were companies friendly to those with disabilities but I thought that was if yuo could make it in.

I have worked full time since before I became ill.  I have found that more companies than you would think are good about offering options.  It fills their diversity requirements, and they find that they get some of the most creative people in the world.  We have to be  LOL.

The company I work for is fabuluous.  I can work from home, adjust my schedule, and most anything else that I need to do.

Think of non-traditional fields i.e. logistics, data management, etc that have odd scheduling, and more flexability.

Good luck and keep us posted.
