Fibromyalgia Members Beware !

Please read this article. They specifically mention fibromyalgia and how many physicians are not prescribing fibromyalgia medications and instead... giving their fibro patients medications like Aleve !!

Isn't this fraud ?? Why aren't health insurance companies doing anything about this ? They are getting ripped off and so are we !

thank you so much for article for only shows me that once again so many doctors do not believe fibromyalgia as a disease even though science proves it is.  But then after years of not getting (most of time) the medical help I need, this only proves one of my major reasons for not getting the kind of help I need.

The whole point is that they want to prove that it's all in your head... But when does the proving stop?  How long must someone go through pain before they decide it's not in their head?  Isn't a couple of YEARS of going through pain an indication that something is truly amiss?  Why continue putting someone through something like that, when they take the time going to the doctor in the first place to get help.  NO ONE, especially doctors should have the right to decide that you're not feeling what you say you are... They should overturn every stone to find out how to stop that... Isn't that why they became a doctor in the first place?  Or is it what everyone believes, and they're just there for the money.  Think hard doctors, your reputation is seriously on the line.

That is so unbelievable!!!  I want to find that Dr. William Schreiber and give him a piece of my mind!!!!

“The problem is that most of those people are very difficult patients, and it’s a whole lot easier to give them something like a big dose of Aleve,”

"Those people", grrrrrrrr that burns me up!

I also read this article and totally freaked!  This is t-total B.S.!!!  Sick freakin' doctors playing mind games with us...arrrghhhhhhh that really chapped my you know what!!  And the pharmacists are "in on it" with them!  It's a freakin' racket is what it is.  If I EVER knew any of my doctors did this to me...I'd sue the heck out of them!  You know...doctors take an oath to HELP US...so many of them forget this!  Thanks for letting me vent everyone!  Abby

How annoying. More doctors who refer to their desperate patients as "those people" and acting like just because they can't figure out what the ailment is, that somehow it must be in a patient's head. Gah!

That's why we must be honest when drugs aren't working. If we still feel pain, report it - don't wait around until it's so bad you can't bear it. Or wait, hoping that eventually a medication will "kick in". I'd honestly be suspicious if any doctor said to "just give it another month". Also makes me wonder how many of the prescriptions really are placebos!?!

I can think of a myriad of other ways to go about weaning out the hypochondriacs - fake pills isn't one of them. Fortunately, I don't personally believe in the use of any drugs unless it's a last resort and all other non-invasive attempts have been made so I'd hope I'd never get caught up w/ a doctor who'd mess with me in such a horrific way. While I certainly don't fault those who choose medication first (for they have their reasons and I'm sure they're all good and valid reasons to do so), having children with bio-neurological issues has helped me see that there *are* other alternatives to drugs.

I agree with you all. I'm going to sound a little harsh... but they need to hear it. If these physicians aren't competent enough to accurately diagnose a patient, then they shouldn't be able to prescribe medications.

Remember when physicians didn't believe MS was real ? And I've heard that physicians only started believing that polio was real (and not psychiatric).. after a male with polio did PSA's on the disease. I think there is sexism in the medical field and I've seen it. I know that men who have chronic fatigue and/or pain seem to have more medical tests done before they are diagnosed.

Like Dr. OZ said on the Oprah show.... when physicians graduate medical school, they think they know it all. The fact is, they don't know it all and they will continue to learn (only if they want to).... when they are physicians. There will be new illnesses, new viruses and new diseases. IMO... the successful physicians are the ones who will face these illnesses head on and not RUN FROM THEM !
