Our nails are made of calcium.  Evidently, your calcium isn't staying in your body.
You might ask a doctor - Magnesium, Vit. C, fish oil, and other minerals might be lacking in your diet or your body.  These help calcium to bind to the bones rather than leave.

     Hope this info helps...

I know my multivitamin doesn't have those amounts of vitamins and minerals in it.

While at the family reunion,I brought the subject of "paper thin" nails up to a cousin---because hers' weren't thin! She said they were thin at one time, and her Dr told her that her body wasn't assimilating vitamins in tablet form.He told her that besides a good diet,to take a good supplement in CAPSULE form!

A good multivitamin is just that.  Sometimes we need extra Vit. D3 and Calcium with Omega 3 fish oil to absorb the calcium properly.
I was recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis and cannot take the usual medications for it.  So am seeking alternative supplements to build my bones.
My nails were also "paper thin" due to the fact that my body was not utilizing the calcium in my multiple vitamin.
I am now taking Calcium (1200 mg.), D3 (5,000 IU), Vit. C (1,000 mg.), Omega 3 Fish Oil (1,000 mg.) and Magnesium (250 mg.)  to build my bones.
You might want to ask your doctor about a DXA scan of your bones.  Because your nails are so thin, it could be a sign of Osteopenia.

     Wishing you the best...

Thank you for your reply;it makes sense! While I'm getting those nutrients through my diet and a multi vitamin,I'm not seeing the benefits!
