Hey everyone,

My mum just has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and is in alot of pain and i just hate seeing that she got out a chair yesterday and her back is wrecked.
Im so sorry all of you have to go through this decease too.
I was just wondering the pain meds she is on are not helping very much. Is there any natural way you all have discovered helps the pain? like massage, shower, creams anything like that? i really want to help her in some way.

thank you.

Hi, I have been out of action for a few months, came back and find the forum has vastly changed. Apart from a few posts it seems to be dealing mainly with fibro. As an M.E. (CFS) sufferer I don't feel so inclined to ask questions or comment upon matters relating to such. The atmosphere of the forum seems to have changed -for me, anyway.
Before I came on here and had a warm feeling that that there were loving, caring fellow sufferers and felt I was in the right place. It no longer feels like that. I don't know if you are a mediator, apologies if you're not. Just thought I'd comment anyway. Went in through someone else's post as I saw your name.

What about asking her for a muscle relaxer? Sometimes they can help too. I am not particularly fond of Cymbalta myself, but the Lyrica is very helpful.

thank you for your answer. i was diagnosed in september. since then, i've been on cymbalta 60mg, and lyrica 300mg. they also put me on relafin. while the pain has gotten a little better, i think i need something else, but i don't know what. when i spoke with my rheumatologist, he said that narcotics only help for immediate relief. i've given the 3 meds i'm on 6mo, but i think i'd like to try something for immediate relief, at least once in a while. when i wake up in the morning, i'm sore all over, stiff, feel like i can't move. as the day goes on, it lessens, but then depending on what i do during the day, i feel like that at bedtime. i just think it would be nice to have that immediate relief in the mornings and at night, ya know? also, i don't know if this is an odd symptom, but if i run my hand down my leg or arm, it's very painful.

Oh...and Fibromyalgia is something you have for life. With the right care, the symptoms can be reduced with the proper exercise, stress, nutrition and medication management.

Hello,
The main symptoms of Fibromyalgia are widespread pain and fatigue. You would have multiple tender areas (muscle and joint pain) perhaps on the back of the neck, shoulders, lower back, forearms and legs. Sleep issues or insomnia are also common. Some people also have overlapping conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, or IBS.

There are three medications that are FDA approved in the US to treat Fibromyalgia, Cymbalta, Lyrica and Savella; however, most people are on unique medication management plans due to differing needs. Many people, especially those with overlapping conditions need to treat those conditions as well. Additionally, some people do not tolerate the approved medications or they just plain do not work for others. Those individuals work with their doctors to find other alternatives (which there are quite a few, but not nearly enough). I hope this helps you.
