I do aquatic therapy through physical therapy. Somedays it is difficult to get up and get going, but once there it truely does make me feel better, as far as the "fibro pain" goes. We do simple exercises. When I first started I thought "Wow this is super easy, and isn't going to do much" after I got done I could definetly feel it. Now that I have been going 2/week for a couple weeks I don't feel as tense. (hasn't taken the pain away, but not as tense). We do basic things such as walking across the pool, leg lifts, stretching, dumbell curls, stepping on boxes, and floating on noodles while kicking legs. I can honestly say the only time I am absolutely pain free is when I am in the pool. Now if only I could figure out how to stay in water all day long. Hmmm.... :-) I say do what you can, and try to get there if you can. In the end the exercise and being around people atleast gives your self esteem a boost. Good luck, we know how overwhelming fibro can be.
With Fibromyalgia, it is recommended that you do some exercise - up to a point! If it hurts, stop. Mild exercise and stretching is good. Swimming is especially helpful as it doesn't put as much stress on the muscles as it does out of the water.
Let your body talk to you - do only what you can. If you can tolerate it, do it.
Instead of swimming laps, do some mild stretching exercises in the warm swimming pool.
And do take Magnesium. It helps a lot with the spasms that we get with Fibro.
