Your dr or PT can diaagnosis myofascial spasm syndrome. Massages are wonderful for this type of pain, and also for fibro. I was injured while working on a dairy in 1981. I was off work for a year. During that time I had the myofascial pain syndrome, and was treated. About a year aafter that I developed fibro. I have had PT off & on since then, to try to treat the worse of the sx. I now take Gabapentin to help with the muscle spasms, and Lyrica for the nerve pain. I also take Tramadol for pain. I think most people with fibro have had some type of injury or accident precipitating the onset of fibro.
I have other medical conditions which also keep me in pain 24/7, some of them stemming from the accident. Life is not always fun, but it's the only one we have, so we just have to make the most of it we can. Hugs & prayers.

I personally think its a bit like the fibro points that are sore to touch, the ribs are much the same, does it get worse when you breath in? I have had severe rib pain for years now and I have just learnt to deal with it
As im in Australia I dont know what Opana is so I will go look it up
I dont take any drugs on a regular basis only when im in a flare.
your spleen sits around that area and that can inflame with fibro, also liver. maybe have a live function test?
** I have just looked up Opana and that is heavy duty! all I can say is becareful as you mentioned when you feel more pain you can go nowhere higher for the pain relief
I heard of that on here before , but did not know what it was. That makes alot of sents. I was getting massages every week. But I have not been able to get one in a couple of weeks. also my hand started tingling, then my foot. Next my face felt real num. But I could still move it. so I went to the ER to make sure it was not something else. Heart was fine , thank God, & X-ray of couse showed nothing. Thank you for the advice. How do they find out if you have this or not? And what is your idea about why people have fibro? Have a nice day.
Thank you for your repile. I just now got in the pain mangement program. I am now taking opana 10 mg. I like it alot. But in does not help the new pain in the rib all the way. But does help with the other pains & is also makes everything brighter & me much happier. They started me on meperidine 50 mg. It made everything bright & happier but no pain releif.. So that is when I started the new one. Opana is a good mix, If pain get worse there is room to move up mg I did get an x-ray, and of couse nothing. I have heard so meny different causes for fibro, I just would like to know what you think is the cause. My sister & my first cousin have fibro too. Thank you again , God bless
Along with fibro you may have myofascial spasm syndrome. That is where the muscles knot up. Usually the way to unknot them is thru physical therapy, where the therapist actually strips the knots and breaks them up. Very painful, in my case they were in my upper chest and legs. It left me black and blue. I have the ribcage pain all the time too, and I just ignore it and go with the pain. But if you haven't experienced this before, it can't hurt to run it by your doctor. Good luck.
Hi,
Firstly good luck getting any advice in this place.
However I have had Fibro for many years and my ribs are where the worst pain is I had xrays etc but showed nothing, a lot of pains that are unexplained are either Fibro or will be put down to it anyway
What meds do you take for the pain?
