Odd "poking"

A few days ago I started getting this weird "poking" sensation on my left foot, around the first metatarsal I think its called. Walking without anything on my feet other than socks, like around the house... I get this sensation, with shoes on I don't notice it as much... It's like there is something in there that wants out every time I step on my left foot... that's the best way I can describe it... what could this be?

As we age (after 30's) we start losing fat to the bottom of the foot.  The poking sensation is your metatarsal head (bone in the ball of your foot) rubbing on the ground.  You don't feel it much with shoes b/c it is cushioned.  I suggest wearing house slippers in the house; otherwise the metatarsals can bruise after prolong standing and become painful.

After posting I thought of another way to describe it, witch is what I first thought it was.... It's like walking on a pebble or something in my sock, I even looked to see what it was at first...
