Acid reflux and difficulty breathing

I had acid reflux yesterday, and its happened before, and everytime it does, I try to swallow back the burning acid but what happens is I choke and for a good hour im basically almost gasping for air, my breathing stays shallow for a good few hours after that and i wake up with sinus congestion, throat and chest congestion and stomach pain.

is this normal and what do i do to prevent or stop this from happening?

thank you

Hi,
These are symptoms of acid reflux and its complications. But chest congestion does not occur  unless you aspirate the content that is getting refluxed.

To get relief, take PPI and modify your lifestyle.

Lifestyle modifications -
1. Head elevation while sleeping
2. Small frequent meals
3. Going to bed 2- 3 hours after food
4. Avoiding bed time snacks
5. Avoiding smoking and alcohol
6. Avoiding tight fitting clothes
7. Avoiding cola, citrus drinks, carbonated drinks, tea, coffee, spicy food
8. Weight reduction

I forgot to add, can acid reflux cause sinus congestion or mucus/sputum in the sinuses, throat or chest/lungs/esophagus? I clear my throat and drain my sinuses and try to clear my lungs on a daily basis, i dont know if this is because of the acid?

thanks
