Cough related digestive system

I have a dry hacking cough that is at sometimes severe, I have noticed that after I eat I have episodes of severe coughing almost to the point of vomiting. I have had inhalers, and about 8 cough medicines to severe strength and they do not have any effect. I have had a chest xray and all is clear. This is driving me and everybody around me crazy. I take priloec daily and have not had a problem until a few months ago when this started. Any thoughts Bob

Try to rule out indigestion.  You may not be digesting your food thereby causing acid or gas to come up the throat.  See an Internist and ask about taking Malic Acid prior to your meals and digestive enzymes just after and see if this changes your symptoms.  Good Luck!

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

Meds can take awhile to appear affective...and u really need to adjust ur diet and lifestyle in addition to help the meds.

If u r on the meds really long, than u should see ur GI dr and tests should be able to show the root cause of ur gerd.

Stress can also cause ur gerd issues to flare, so do try to relax. Our Health Pages here on MedHelp have tips and other info that can help.....
