EFFECTIVE MEDICATION

I have been taking Protonix for 5 yrs. Originally had Bowel obstruction surgery 7 yrs. agao. Bad doctor from emergency room referral, no antibiotics before during or after. Contracted acute sepsis, jaundice then ARDS.
On ventelator in coma for several weeks. Upon awakening had hole in my stomach size of a football. Several failed mesh surgeries, finally flapped and repaired by reputable nationally known surgeon. Still have  adhesions requiring decompression sometim es, etc. Hiatel hernia, GERD Acid Reflux and Larynix tumors are some of my long term problems now. Both from losing some of stomache, Esophageal damage and throat damage, from intubing along with lung damage from ARDS. I am now high maintainence.
My Part D plan only allows certain generics during donut hole. My husband is also on a transplant list. Medical costs for us both are extensive. We do not qualify for any help since we always worked and saved for retirement. That nest egg has all but gone.
Q. I desperately needed another kind of Proton Inhibitor. I have tried all others up to my husband's Nexium without much relief. I had surgery to carterize bleeding arteries in stomache again. Meds and time to clear u
Severe anemia. I am aware of Protonix generic Pantoprazole. I have now been advised by a Pharmacist that Prevacid will help me. Will it?? Is this a Beta Blocker only or more? Are there ANY Proton pump Inhibitors out there other than Protonix and generic?. Is there a hospital injection of medicine that can be given?
I will anxiously await any and all replys. I am living on Pepcid now with little relief.
My Pharmacy puts Protonix at $737. for 180 40mg.tabs of Protonix and $570 for Pantoprazole.

Hi,
There are only 5 proton pump inhibitors available. Omeprazole(prilosec), lansoprazole (prevacid), pantoprazole (protonix), rabeprazole( aciphaex) and esomeprazole(Nexium). All are of same efficacy. If there is no response to one, switching  to another might be helpful. Get your doctor's opinion before changing the medications.
