GERD vs ????

RN1
On occasion I have had right upper quadrant pain after eating but it has always gone away without intervention.  Last week during the night I awoke and it felt as is my stomach, esophagus and throat were on fire. I went to my Dr. who prescribed Nexium for what she thought was GERD. She also drew some labs. I have taken the Nexium since Sat which has helped a little along with diet modification. Today they called and my lipase was elevated at only 70. She said I should have a Gall Bladder UltraSound done and if that is normal then to procede with a HydaScan. Due to previous health issues recently with other medical bills, are these tests medically necessary?

HI ...I have to agree with ChitChat....there r several conditions that can cause gerd and if it is not typical gerd the meds do not help.So it is best to find out what is causing ur issues.

I also understand many medical bills and not wanting unwarrented tests.....even with insurance this can be quite costly to get better.

Please update us on what u decide to do and the results.

Hi, I'm not sure but wanted to stop by and mention that my 17yr old had awful reflux that was caused by GB dysfunction.  And it took yrs to figure it out .. all ultrasounds were normal and it wasn't until she had a HydaScan done did they find out it was her GB and after it was removed her reflux is almost normal.  So it's a double edged sword.

I'm sure others will stop by with advice, too but wanted to say hi
