silent reflux and ppi

Another post for the community.I noticed that after I eat I get a "silent reflux" I feel bloating in my stomach then asthma like symptoms.I usually take a drink of water with apple cider vinegar, then it seems to go away.I was wondering since I have been on ppi's for three weeks, shouldn't the reflux stop? Should I have a doctor prescribe a different ppi since I have heard not every ppi works for everyone. Or should I also add an H2 blocker?
Thanks for your help.

Hi....u need to discuss a change in meds with ur dr or Pharmacist b4 doing nething. Every one is diff and may take diff lengths of time to got to the point of weaning off the meds.

And as for the reflux stopping....it all depends on the root cause....if u have a hiatal hernia it is possible to calm it down and no longer need meds...I went yrs with out meds....so that is possible, but, u should modify diet and lifestyle to be  able to go as long as possible with out the need for meds.

If u r on the meds 4 to 6 weeks with no marked improvement ( and u modified diet ect)...then call ur dr to try a diff med...but PPI's can take a while b4 u see an indication that they r working.

Hi....I also have a Hiatal hernia...and yes there r several things u can do to try to keep it all calmed down....diet and lifestyle changes r the best things....PPI's will help heal ur LES....and one lifestyle tip is to elevate the head of ur bed to keep the acids down in the stomach away from the LES so it can heal. Avoid eating dairy products which slow the LES and allow the acids back up where u do not want them.

And avoid the foods that affect u...the list in the Health pages may or may not work for u....I had a bad flare where water set me off....so I do understand how "safe foods" may not appear safe all the time.....keep a journal to help find ur safe foods.

Avoid tight clothes and bending over causing a tight restriction..weight loss can help, but ne change in weight will affect u until u level off.

If u smoke...stop...same with alcohol.....and spicey foods....and lastly the dr in the GERD expert forum talks about chiropractors that r trained in moving ur hiatal hernia down and aleaving many of the symptoms. This is something I recently heard of and have not tried.
