I'm miserable! Is this really acid reflux?

For the past couple months I've been having some issues my doctor attributed to acid reflux and possibly a hiatal hernia.  He told me to take Prilosec, which didn't seem to be making a difference, so he then prescribed Nexium.  Things seemed to only be worse while I was on Nexium as I was experiencing some chest pain after eating or drinking but this stopped for several days after I stopped taking the medication which was in the middle of March.  About 2 weeks after stopping the Nexium I've been experiencing a lot of really weird symptoms and am having discomfort on a daily basis.  Some symptoms include: upper abdomen is tender to the touch; some slight nausea in the morning; burping; hiccups.  Here is where things get strange and really have me concerned.  I've been having chest discomfort sometimes right after eating.  One time this was brought on by eating ice cream and lasted for about an hour.  Also experienced a back ache sometimes immediately after eating and other times hours laters.  Ate some soup while it was still kind of hot and not only by back but the back of my neck started aching.  The weirdest thing of all happened a couple days ago.  I drank a glass of room temperature water rather quickly and as soon as it hit my stomach I got some pain but my shoulders started aching pretty bad.  Ended up laying down and the shoulder pain quit about 20 minutes later.  How weird is that?  Does this sound like acid reflux.  I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist coming up on Tuesday.

No IBS.  Dairy products don't seem to bother me except the time with the ice cream which seemed to cause chest discomfort.  The most strange thing was having shoulder pain after drinking a glass of water.  It was like as soon as the water hit my stomach it caused stomach and shoulder pain.  Several of these episodes of been during or immediately after eating/drinking.  It's driving me crazy as I never experienced anything like this before.

HI ..the hiccups are a sign of a hiatal hernia..same with the nausea.....

May I ask if u have IBS?...that can add to the issues u r having....

Ice cream is  not a good idea if u r having LES motility issues...the LES if it is slow allows the acid to get up into the esophagus and sometimes ur mouth...dairy products can slow the LES making the issue worse....so if u must have dairy..eat it early in the day ...and avoid foods that will add to ur distress ( see Health Pages) http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?cid=236
