Is it GERD or something else?

Hi,
I am female age 36. Since Nov 2008 I suffered from chest pain (right side and middle). It started when I started a diet plan for 1 month (taking only 1 meal per day) and after completed a very stressful task. Most of the time the pain will follow with severe pain behind and lower right shoulder. I will feel tight in my chest as if I want to burp but cannot. When I burp I feel a bit ok but immediately the tight feelings come again. I experience it all day. If I lie down and sleep at night I feel fine. But after few hours I feel the pain again. Sometime I have problem swallowing my saliva. I always have sore throat.

I have seen a gastroentrologist but he didn’t do any test he said it is GERD and he gave me Controloc 40mg (1 tablet every morning). I have taken it for 3 months. It reduces the pain but still sometime I still have the pain. I am very caution with what i eat now.  I have stop taken my medication since Mac 2009. My weight has drop 3 kg. I am thinking of going to another gastroentrologist and do scope. What is your suggestion? Do you think it has to do with my gallbladder? I am very worried and feel as if I am dying. Pls advice. Thank you for your help.

i had the same symptoms the first time i ever felt i was going to die was while i was having that pain but after i wondered if i might have just freaked my self out so much i might have had a panic attack the next time i had the pain after a night of fighting with my boyfriend but that night i felt no pain it was the next morningon the drive to the hospital i guess i passed out because of how hard i was breathing  as we pulled up to the er my mom screamed my name and i woke up no pain it was just gone ...
i had a endosigmoidoscopy scope through both ends) it turns out i have a hiatal hernia (my stomach is in my chest)the top part of my stomach is sticking out past the diaphram which can even side up or down causing the heart burn a hiatal hernia is right between the lungs my guss is thats what made it hard to breath
most surgens wont opperate because of where its located ..between lungs....next to the heart and meds havent helped me
and i work with these doctors but if you havent gotten an EGD scope down throat do it find a GI who will  if its not what i have it might be worse i sneaked a glance at the pics from the scope and they look clean (beautiful) compared to other patients

It doesn't sound as if you're dying, but getting your gallbladder checked is a great idea. Requesting a scope might be a good idea as well. For the moment, try eating multiple small meals per day (4 to 8) and make sure they're all low fat. If it's your gallbladder, that'll help reduce the discomfort. If it's GERD, that'll also help control it.

Good luck.
