It was appropriate to have labs drawn, however, he should have referred you to a GI Specialist.
Three causes come to mind: a GI infection (Giardia or H. Pylori), a diet high in protein or a medication. In the infection senario, a PPI, i.e. Prilosec and something for the infection is prescribed. Best person to sort this out would be the GI Specialist.
If you are in the USA, Prilosec is available OTC, however, I am not sure about the strength/dosage available or cost.
With the ins u have do u need a referral to go to a GI dr?..If not, just find one and go, u can always call the local hospital for names of drs or ur ins plan they can tell u those that participate.
Blood work for GI issues....sounds odd to me....
Did u modify ur diet and lifestyle?....u can get meds OTC that are not as expensive as an RX and work the same.Talk to ur pharmacist at the drug store they can help u find the right med.
My doctor did some blood work but that's it..I asked about seeing a GI doc but he said it wasn't necessary...I was on prilosec for awhile which seemed to help but couldn't afford co pay so I stopped taking it and it happened again..I want to know 100% what's wrong with me..thank you for responding to my question sometimes it feels like I'm getting nowhere fast
Hi...what tests did ur Dr do to determine u had excess acid?..and y do u not feel that is accurate?
Not being a Dr, or knowing ur history it is not something we can dx...u have to go back to a dr a GI dr and have tests run to figure this out.
U may have too much acid, but it could be ur Gall Bladder, U mentioned vomiting so I am concerned it may be more then reflux.
DO see a GI dr.
