My symptoms

Hi All,

I have following symptoms
1. Burping (even on empty stomach)
2. Feeling of something stuck at throat
3. Shortness of breath
4. Productive cough (i.e with sputum)

Do I need to undergo endoscopy or is this a simple acid reflux.

PS: I do not have heartburn or vomiting, have good appetite, I am male aged 27 years, height 169 cm, weight 60.5 Kg

Thanks & Regards,
Ajith

Not sure if a Dr will want to do an endoscopy....it depends on how long this has been going on for you....and keep in mind....the meds you are taking are to help with the reflux...but may  not address the PND....you may need an anti histamine....OR instead of Pantoprazole you may want to try a H2 blocker which helps reduce histamine being released.....

Talking to a relative, that is a Dr and going and being examined by a Dr are different....so get a full exam....

Hi selmaS/scottswife898,

Thank you for the replies.
Just read about post nasal drip "Postnasal drip creates an annoying feeling that makes you want to constantly clear your throat"
I am having same feeling and I mistook this for productive cough.
My cousin (doctor) suggested me to take Pantoprazole for 5 days.
Hoping this will give some relief.

Do I need to undergo Endoscopy???

Regards,
Ajith

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

As the above poster mentioned look into LPR or Silent reflux known for not always causing the typical heart burn but can be just as or more serious an issue.

For me, I tend to over produce histamines....and using a H2 blocker instead of a PPI worked along with a antihistamine....this helped my PND and has helped cut back on my other symptoms as well as modifying my diet like the above poster suggests.

Do see your Dr and ask about the cause of the PND....or histamine over load and see what will help you feel better....keep us posted on your progress.

Look up LPR or "Silent Reflux" It is very dangerous and unlike GERD can actually damage your lungs. You will notice that you also will have a raspy voice, post nasal drip, but most of the time the cough is non-productive. My doctor put me on allergy nasal spray (just in case it was really post nasal drip... IT wasn't) and a steroid inhailer. He instantly referred me to a ENT specialist who put a scope down my nose (they numb it) and could tell I had damage from this. Since I didn't feel any heart burn I never considered my throat issues to be this.
My non medical advice is acid reduction. Low acid, Coffee, chocolate, spicy, citrus etc. You can get Zantac or Other Protein pump inhibitors over the counter.
I found out I had mine because I had a buffalo sandwich and on the way home felt like I had an allergic reaction and had post nasal drip. two days later I cleared my throat one too many times and my voice was gone for two weeks. My voice is still horse. My husband made me go to the doctor because of my cough. It sounds horrible like a old person coughing.
